Sarah Davachi

Canadian composer and organist, born in Calgary in 1987, who writes slow, timbre-focused music for organ, Mellotron, strings and voices.

Sarah Davachi is a Canadian composer and organist, born in Calgary in 1987. She studied philosophy at the University of Calgary, electronic music at Mills College in Oakland, and completed a doctorate in musicology at UCLA in 2025 with a dissertation on timbre and the study of instruments, a concern audible throughout her work.

Her pieces unfold slowly around the colour and decay of sustained sound, using pipe organ, Mellotron, electric organ, analogue electronics, strings and voice. Gave in Rest (Ba Da Bing, 2018) drew on early music and sacred spaces, Cantus, Descant (2020) focused on the organ, and Long Gradus (2023) was written for the string quartet Quatuor Bozzini. In 2020 she founded Late Music, an imprint within the partner labels division of Warp Records. The Venice Biennale awarded her the Silver Lion for music in 2026.
